PSI (Pions)

4 minis were irradiated in the pE1 pion beam at PSI, Villigen, Switzerland.
They were irradiated to a total fluence of ~ 3.6 × 1014 pcm-2

The minis were mounted on two holders with two minis back-to-back on each holder. The temperature was monitored via two PT-100 sensors, one on each holder (click to view the full-size image):-

The detectors were reverse biased at 100V during the irradiation. The beam was stopped regularly to take an I-V. The detector and guard-ring leakage currents at 100V vs fluence are shown below.

The leakage currents at 100V were normalised to a temperature of 20°C and plotted against fluence on logarithmic axes to identify the expected power law regions.

I µ f in the low fluence region and
I µ f0.5 in the high fluence region.

The low-fluence region was fitted to a power law :-

The average of the results was :-

I µ f1.05 ± 0.01

The currents were normalised to -10°C and the high-fluence region was fitted to a power law :-

The average of the results was :-

I µ f0.386 ± 0.002

The low-flunce region (@20°C) was fitted to a straight line and the high-fluence region (@-10°C) was fitted to a square-root curve. The average values of a and b for the four detectors given by these fits to the data were :-

a(20°C) = (1.46 ± 0.06 stat. ± 0.23 sys.) × 10-16 A cm-1
b(-10°C) = 0.068 ± 0.003 stat. ± 0.011 sys. cm-1
