By Air
The closest large airport to fly into is Manchester Airport. It has a train station from which you can catch a train to Manchester Picadilly, and change here for a train to Sheffield.
It is also possible to fly to London Heathrow. From here, you can travel to Sheffield by train or by coach.
By train. From Heathrow, there’s the Elizabeth line straight into central London, this train is really nice and new and takes about 40 minutes to get you to Farringdon. At Farringdon you change and take one of the following lines westbound - Circle/Hammersmith & City/Metropolitan (they’re all going the same way). You stay on this just one stop to St Pancras International Station (2 mins). From here there are direct trains ~ every 30 mins to Sheffield. The train takes about 2 hours. And just a warning that in St Pancras station, you follow signs for EMR trains (East Midlands Railway) - they’re upstairs because the ground level is international departures for France.
By coach. National Express runs coaches from London to Sheffield. There is one direct coach per day from Heathrow to Sheffield, others have one change at Birmingham. They depart from various Heathrow terminals, but at Heathrow it is straightforward to travel between terminals.
