Notes

January 2013

January 2013 models.

29/01/2013 Models 54, 55 and 56 are as models 51 to 53 but 240 MeV/c Flip Mode.

21/01/2013 For models 51, 52 and 53 I intend to run a baseline model with the addition of the South Side Buildings. Primarily I'm thinking of Step IV with and without return yoke and Step VI without return yoke.

16/01/2013 A new directory has been added to the website to allow relevant results to be posted next to individual models. These can also be accessed directly from the results page.

14/01/2013 General note: For the last week I have been adding the south side buildings to the model. (MLCR, plant room, rack room 2, etc.) These additions should not have any impact on the current run of modelling the racks and compressors as all of these building elements can be turned off. The Mice Hall South Wall has had to be changed from hexahedral to tetrahedral meshing to prevent volume meshing errors with the ISIS control room buildings.

08/01/2013 I've added a second table below the first table (see lower down the page) indicating which models we intend to run with open fronted racks. Hopefully this will provide a useful comparison. These models turns the material properties of the 'steel' on the front of the rack to 'air'; this should retain the meshing resolution but it will model as though a panel had been removed.

08/01/2013 Committed comi code to Launchpad Repository via Bazaar. Revision 17. (Model 44)

08/01/2013 Model 44 would not initally mesh (Volume mesh error). The cause of the error was due to a void in the Hall air from a mis-matched cut out of the solenoid volume. In cases where the model has previously meshed without errors this void's material properties would have defaulted to 'air'. As 'air' would have been the correct material choice for the volume occupied by this void this bug is not deemed to be serious.

This bug leaves a single cylindrical cell (void) surrounding the solenoid air. Due to the shape of the void the mesh size in this volume should have been largely determined by the mesh size of the surrounding volume so there should not have been too great a loss in resolution in this volume. This bug would have affected all previous models from the point where the shield was updated from a simple 'open shield' (models 36 - 43) but I think the risk to these models is low. The bug has now been corrected.
