2nd ATLAS UK Physics Meeting

The second ATLAS UK Physics meeting was be held at Manchester on Wednesday 11th February 1998.

The following people attended:
Tass Belias (RAL), Paul Bright-Thomas (Birm), Evelina Bouhova (Sheff), Lee Drage (Camb), Ian Duerdoth (Manc), Joe Foster (Manc), Nigel Glover (Durham) Stephen Haywood (RAL), Stephen Hillier (Birm), Richard Hughes-Jones (Manc), Roger Jones (Lanc), Mark Lehto (Sheff), Steve Lloyd (QMW), Fred Loebinger (Manc), Robin Marshall (Manc), Jo Pater (Manc), Andrew Pickford (Glas), Steve Snow (Manc), Stan Thompson (Glas), Pete Watkins (Birm).

Jet algorithms in hadron colliders - Nigel Glover

Nigel gave a 'wet fish in your face' talk about new ways of classifying the jetiness of events based on probabilities rather than integer numbers of jets.

The paper on which Nigel's talk was based is available here.

Offline software: moving from Fortran to OO - Jo Pater

Jo explained how ATLAS plans to move from the Fortran world of the present to the OO world of the future.

The slides are available here.

The simulated performance of the Inner Detector - Stephen Haywood

Stephen summarised the performance of the Inner Detector as given in the TDR and explained what has happened since the TDR

The slides from Stephen's TDR talk are available here.

Physics demands on detector alignment and magnetic field map - Steve Snow

Steve described the current criteria that define the required alignment and field map accuracy and asked whether anyone had other criteria that should be considered.

The slides are available here:
1, 2, 3.

B Physics review - Mark Lehto

Mark posponed the review till next time and described his (successful) attempts to run the B-physics code at Sheffield.

The slides are available here:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Future plans

The next meeting will probably be in Birmingham in July 1998.
