Summary of research interests
Dr Thompson leads Sheffield's neutrino astrophysics activities. He is spokesman of ACORNE (Acoustic COsmic Ray Neutrino Experiment) which plans is developing techniques for acoustic detection of ultra-high-energy astrophysical neutrinos using underwater hydrophone arrays and is a member of the KM3NeT design study project which is co-ordinating the design of a cubic kilometre neutrino telescope for the Mediterranean Sea. He is also a member of the T2K long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment. Full details of his research interests can be found at his personal home page.
